How we help
NHAS supports advisers assisting clients who may have housing issues to resolve and supports the frontline adviser to look at the various options and solutions available to them based on the particular circumstances of the case.
Most common causes of homelessness dealt with by our advisers
The main reasons for clients facing possible homelessness and seeking assistance from an advice agency or local housing authority team can include:
- client leaving parents/relatives/friends
- relationship breakdown
- possession action on current rented accommodation
- possession action on a mortgaged property
- end of an assured shorthold tenancy under Section 21
- discharge from an institution (care/hospital/prison etc)
- clients ill-equipped to manage tenancy due to vulnerability or health reasons
- harassment and illegal eviction by landlord
- client in unfit premises.
