County Court Duty Desk search

Do you or your client have a rent or mortgage arrears court hearing?

Please do visit your local advice agency in advance of any court hearing you may have, as it may be that with the help of the adviser you can come to an arrangement with your lender prior to the court hearing.

Always attend any court hearing – however nervous you feel it is really important that you are there. Even if you think there is nothing that can be done, there may well be something you weren’t aware of and it is often surprising how much a court desk adviser can help.

A large number of courts will have a duty desk scheme – this means that there will be an adviser who can talk to you about the hearing, may go into court with you and speak on your behalf and then be able to explain what has happened in the court and what the next steps are.

To search for the address of your local county court and to find out whether that court has a duty desk scheme to advice/represent you in your forthcoming rent or mortgage arrears case please enter a postcode, town or county below.

Please arrive earlier than the time shown on your court letter and take all relevant paperwork with you. It will help if you have been able to make a note of the money you have coming in on a weekly or monthly basis and payments you have to pay regularly including rent, mortgage, electricity, food as well as payments to creditors like loans, credit cards etc.,

Please note : This part of the site is still in development so even if the search does not show a court desk scheme it is still worth going to the court a bit early on the day of your hearing and asking the usher if there is a court desk scheme.

If you run a court desk scheme please do email us at nhas.website@citizensadvice.org.uk so that we can add your details.
